A rare Art Deco table lamp designed by Jean Boris Lacroix and produced by Metis, France, during the 1930s.
The design reflects the restrained modernist side of French Art Deco, combining clean geometric proportions with refined material contrast. A short cylindrical frosted glass shade is suspended above a nickel-plated brass structure composed of a slender stem and domed circular base, creating a balanced architectural silhouette characteristic of Lacroix’s elegant functional approach.
Unlike more heavily ornamental Art Deco lighting of the period, this piece demonstrates a more progressive modernist sensibility, emphasising proportion, material quality, and understated form.
The original Metis stamp remains present inside the base.
An increasingly difficult-to-source example of pre-war French modernist lighting.
