He was born in and lived in Providence, Rhode island. having lived in this part of the world, he would have been very familiar with whaling and ships. New Bedform, Mass, whaling capitol of the world in its day, is 36 miles away from Providence. These prints show the wonderful expressive yet detailed style of Pailthorpe. The substrate is a thick and high quality paper which has a wonderful aged patina making them look very historic. See less

- These prints are in generally good condition. there are a couple of very small edge tears that have been taped … moreThese prints are in generally good condition. there are a couple of very small edge tears that have been taped with archival mending tissue. There is some yellowing on the backs from what was likely scotch tape, which has been removed. The front of one of them has what may be a little U.V. yellowing, but it is not distracting as the entire print has patina. Prints lie flat, and are not wrinkled. less
