This exceptional antique Persian Feraghan Sarouk rug, measuring approximately 3'4" x 5'2" and dating to around 1890, is a beautiful and highly collectible example of late 19th century Western Persian weaving. Combining the elegance of Feraghan design traditions with the durability and decorative richness of Sarouk craftsmanship, this rug represents the sophisticated village artistry that has made antique Feraghan Sarouks among the most admired Persian carpets in the world.
The composition is centered around a striking geometric floral medallion set upon a warm terracotta-salmon field densely populated with delicate Herati-inspired motifs, stylized blossoms, angular vines, and finely drawn floral ornaments. The beautifully balanced ivory corner spandrels create strong contrast and add brightness and openness to the overall composition.
Particularly impressive is the rug’s richly ornamented midnight navy border filled with bold geometric floral motifs and rosettes, framing the field with tremendous visual strength and architectural balance. The contrast between the soft salmon field and the dark navy border creates an especially elegant and highly decorative appearance.
The color palette is refined and beautifully aged, featuring warm terracotta, soft salmon, ivory, midnight navy, celadon green, pale sky blue, walnut brown, and subtle coral tones. The natural vegetable dyes have mellowed gracefully over more than a century, giving the rug the soft luminous character so highly prized in authentic 19th century Persian rugs.
The rug appears to be in excellent condition for its age, with a remarkably well-preserved pile and crisp drawing throughout. The back reveals a finely woven and supple structure indicative of high-quality craftsmanship and careful preservation over generations.
Because of its authentic late 19th century age, excellent condition, highly decorative color harmony, desirable small-room size, and collectible Feraghan Sarouk character, this rug would reasonably carry a retail value in today’s market in the range of approximately $8,000 – $14,000 retail, with especially strong appeal to collectors and designers seeking refined antique Persian rugs with soft natural coloration and outstanding decorative balance.
