We are pleased to present this beautiful 19th-century italian school oil on canvas painting. The painting depicts a young woman sitting outside on a stone terrace.
the woman sits in a three-quarter view, facing right, gazing out at the viewer with her large blue eyes. A faint smile conveys serenity yet composure. Her hair is brown, glossy, smooth on top, and gathered in long curls at the sides of her face, in keeping with the hairstyles of the time. She wears a long, light and refined ivory-white day dress. A few pieces of jewelry emphasize her aristocratic social standing, albeit without exaggeration, yet with great elegance: a golden cameo brooch decorates the collar at the center of her chest, and a golden bracelet adorns her left wrist. A clearly visible wedding ring is worn on her left hand, highlighting her social status as a young married woman. Her hands are delicately folded in her lap, and her right hand holds a small book with a dark red cover. The woman sits in a bright red upholstered wooden armchair, a style attributable to the louis-philippe period (first half of the 19th century). A bright blue scarf drapes over the armrest of the armchair. The background behind depicts a softly nuanced outdoor landscape, completing the work without distracting attention from the subject of the portrait.
this wonderful portrait is of excellent artistic quality with delicately blended brushstrokes. The light illuminates the figure from the front, highlighting her pale complexion and the whiteness of her dress against the darker tones of the background. The artist includes several personal touches that allow us to imagine the personality and life of this young woman. We have traced some characteristic elements, but by looking at this painting, you too will be transported into the life of a young woman of the 19th century.
a wonderful painting that will enchant your guests! if you love old portraits, you absolutely must add this splendid painting to your collection.
the painting is perfectly complemented by a wonderful gilded wooden frame with relief decorations. The frame has undergone some restoration in the corners which however do not compromise the overall aesthetics.
