the solemn and theatrical composition unfolds around the strong vertical axis of the cross, while the figure of the virgin, wrapped in a blue cloak and pink robe, surrenders to a gesture of intense emotional participation. The angels, arranged in a refined scenographic manner, introduce a note of luminous grace and dynamism, typical of central and northern italian painting of the second half of the 17th century.

of particular interest is the presence, at the bottom left, of a coat of arms with a double-headed eagle, an element suggesting an aristocratic commission for a large noble residence.
