The arrangement of these clusters of fish is strongly reminiscent of the design arrangement in the Art Deco rugs of Europe.

Art Deco of this type were sometimes commissioned by the architects responsible for building the Art Deco and modernist palaces of some of the most important maharajas of India, who were enamoured with the continental Avant-Garde movements in art and design.
