The sculpture is in fine condition as shown, with natural imperfections in the wood, but no external wear or outside damage.

The sculpture is made of a single block of polished, light-brown teak with a rich grain pattern, featuring fine lines, natural swirls, and shifting wood tones running horizontally across the chest and vertically down the abdomen. The bottom of the torso features a rough, bark-like, less polished texture, contrasting with the smooth, finely oiled finish of the upper body.

Born in Philadelphia in 1933, Don Homan worked as a professional physicist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California. He began wood carving as a youth and continued to create art throughout his scientific career, ultimately sculpting hundreds of pieces. Homan's sculptures often follow a modernist and classical aesthetic, focusing heavily on exploring natural wood grains, contours, and figures locked within the material. He won numerous fine art awards and has several permanent public installations throughout Livermore, California, including the town's prominent Peace Monument. See less
