Executed in Italy during the 1950s–1960s, the work embodies the refined craftsmanship and organic modernist sensibility associated with the sculptural traditions of Pietrasanta. Born in Pietrasanta, Graziani attended the local art school before apprenticing with sculptor Umberto de Giovanni. After several years as de Giovanni’s assistant, he opened his own studio in 1940 and collaborated closely with many of the region’s leading sculptors. His artistic training is evident in the sculpture’s fluid lines, elongated proportions, and softly modeled features. The figure is cast in bronze with a rich warm patina and mounted on a polished marble base with dramatic natural veining. Graceful and intimate in scale, the sculpture presents a sophisticated decorative presence equally suited to modern, minimalist, or traditional interiors. Signed “Graziani” to the bronze. See less
