his charming antique Persian Sarouk Feraghan rug, measuring approximately 3'5" x 4'5", is a beautiful example of the refined village weaving traditions of Western Persia from the late 19th century. Though modest in size, the rug possesses the elegance, sophistication, and finely balanced drawing associated with the best Feraghan and Sarouk workshop productions.
The design is centered around a highly stylized geometric floral medallion set against an ivory field filled with delicate angular vines, blossoms, and abstract botanical motifs. The spacious composition is beautifully framed by a richly detailed dark border containing stylized rosettes and floral ornaments, creating strong contrast and architectural balance.
Particularly attractive is the rug’s softly aged palette, featuring ivory, camel, muted coral, soft rose, pale terracotta, chocolate brown, and touches of faded sky blue throughout the field and border. The natural age-related softening of the colors gives the rug a warm, understated elegance highly sought after by collectors and interior designers alike.
The drawing displays the transitional character often found in antique Feraghan weavings, where classical Persian floral motifs become slightly geometric and more tribal in interpretation. The rug has a very decorative presence while still retaining the sophistication expected from antique Persian workshop carpets.
The rug appears to be in good condition for its age, with wear consistent with more than a century of use, adding to its authenticity and character. The back reveals a fine and tightly woven foundation, indicative of quality craftsmanship and durable village construction.
Because of its attractive size, decorative coloration, authentic age, and collectible Feraghan/Sarouk character, a reasonable retail value in today’s market would be approximately $2,500 – $4,500 retail, depending on the exact age, pile condition, and selling venue. Pieces with this type of soft aged palette and decorative balance continue to remain desirable in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
