The artwork portrays a young woman with harmonious features, shown in profile, with a gathered hairstyle and an

ornamental crown recalling the iconography of Classical Antiquity.

Her clothing, a robe in soft pink and ivory tones, evokes Greco-Roman female figures, suggesting an idealized and

symbolic representation rather than a realistic portrait of an identifiable individual.

The painting is distinguished by soft brushwork, delicate chiaroscuro transitions, and a refined rendering of the flesh tones.

The antique artwork is signed lower left U. Bourgeois, a French painter active in the 19th-century artistic scene.

Léon Pierre Urbain Bourgeois (1842–1911) was born in Nevers and died in Paris; he studied under prominent masters,

including Alexandre Cabanel, a renowned academic painter of the time.

He trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited his works in 1865 at the Salon des Artistes Français,

the most important official exhibition in France during that period. Winner of the Prix de Rome in 1863.

The painting is set within an elegant period gilded frame in fine gold leaf, finely crafted, enhancing its historical

and decorative value. Both the frame and the oil painting have been professionally and carefully restored.
