Pair of Antique Ball End Silver Salt Spoons hand crafted by celebrated 19th century Philadelphia silversmith, George Sharp. They measure 3.5" length. The spoons are stamped "Patent 1863 GS". George Sharp received the patent for the ball design design in 1864.
At that time these spoons were made, silverware was generally made of coin silver which was 90% silver.
These spoons are interesting because of their fine design, craftsmanship and historical significance. The design has a modernistic feel which is unusual for the time in which they were crafted. They are highly collectible.
