It was designed in the 1960s and is part of the handcrafted production from 2004.

The sculpture is composed of a multitude of small, delicate elements made of polished brass and flame-colored steel brass, which were intentionally patinated during production.

Kurt Freiler, a metalworker who immigrated to the U.S. from Germany, met New York City-born artist Jerry Fels in California in the 1940s. Initially, they produced costume jewelry together. In 1963, they founded Artisan House. C. Jeré (also: Curtis Jere) is a collective pseudonym under which Jerry Fels and Kurt Freiler designed and crafted wall sculptures and home accessories.

Their sculptures were sold at Raymor in New York City, at Gumps in San Francisco, and in other high-end home furnishings stores. Fels and Freiler sold Artisan House in 1973. The company continues to produce sculptures based on designs by the two founders.

The sculptures have appeared as props in film and television productions such as “Mad Men,” “Men in Black 3,” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” This piece has an attribution mark,
