The original advertising campaign for Moon Bags billed the handbags as 'Art To Carry' and I agree! This beautiful example is from the 1980's but it has a strong 1970's vibe with a black leather body embellished with a needlepoint front panel in an Asian moth motif incorporating gold and silver metallic threading with black, white and taupe. The hand painted lacquer wood panel continues the pattern of the needlepoint and has a clever hidden feature which is standard in all Moon Bags designs...it can be removed by a velcro strip on the inside of the bag so the wearer can mix and match other Smith designed panels or even flip this one over for the matte black wood finish. The inside is lined in black silk faille with a zippered side pocket and securely snaps closed under the lacquer flap. The skinny long black leather shoulder strap can be worn cross-body or knotted at the top to create a shorter length or even tucked inside to create a clutch style.

Overall the handbag is in good vintage condition. The needlepoint, leather and interior lining are in very good condition. The lacquer wood shows some minor scratching at the front and also minor though more noticeable scratching at the unseen back. The interior of each side of the strap shows wear at the leather as shown in photographs 12 and 13 though it is unseen when worn and the leather covers cording which appears sound.

The body of the handbag measures 9" wide x 7.5" tall x 2" deep. The shoulder strap measures 45" from end to end providing a 21" drop. See less
