Overview: Cast brass silent butler with shaped handle. The recessed face is encircled by twelve relief panels depicting the Chinese zodiac—rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, pig—within a Greek-key border. Smooth concave underside in warm golden brass with rich aged patina.
Specifications: 7.5" disc diameter; 11.5" overall length. Cast brass.
Condition: Good vintage condition. Strong relief detail; warm patina with verdigris highlights. Light wear consistent with age. No damage.
Historical Significance: The silent butler was a Victorian-era table accessory used to discreetly sweep crumbs after fine dining. Asian-made brass examples with zodiac iconography blend European table tradition with East Asian symbolism, often produced for Western export markets.
