An outstanding set of 1950s French modernist dining chairs by Maurice Pré in a rarely seen combination of white oak and mahogany, fully refinished and reupholstered in a decadent chenille textile by Osborne & Little.
The frame is a sculptural silhouette, with angular legs that taper to a pinpoint. Viewed in profile, the chair seems to defy the laws of physics, with a seat and back suspended between a pair of rail-thin legs. They resemble a sharper version of the Model 158 dining chair by Pré’s contemporary Carlo de Carli.
All chairs in the set have been fully redone – refinished and reupholstered with new high density foam and fabric.
These chairs are unmarked, as is the case for all chairs of this model that we have seen. The attribution to Maurice Pré is based on industry consensus.
