What a pretty girl this dish is… I love the iridescent blue/indigo/violet hue this fine porcelain was painted so much! It’s such a satisfying tone and would match with any decor. And it’s even signed by the artist who hand painted her also! It appears to say “J. Hughes” and likely the word “Japan” as well, that has been either rubbed off or faded much more.
Stamped “ Japan” because it was physically produced there but by a German manufacturer that has been producing earthenware in Japan since 1935. This dish was likely made in the 40’s-50’s. The bowl stands on 3 feet and is topped with a pretty lid to keep dust and eyes off of your precious things, while adding appeal & style to the room. Use it as a candy dish in the living room, a jewelry bowl in the bedroom or a catch-all by the front door... Or just a nice find to compliment your collection.
