This stunning oil painting comes from the estate of L.B. Curtis. Curtis, one of the early Tucson Artist Group who loved to paint the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. Hee was greatly influenced and friends with Maynard Dixon and Ray Strang also among the group. Oftentimes the 3 could be found painting on the desert together.
I love the colors of this beautiful oil, colors one wouldn't be obliged to find on the Sonoran Desert, yet he brings them alive and straight to us in his works. Mountains do turn blue and clouds pink. Tumbleweeds the color of hay and lupines are this deep of a blue; the dirt of the dessert is a spectrum of colors all of which Curtis has brought to his paintings. This is a spectacular piece framed in an elaborate gilded frame to honor his work. He is a secret of SW collectors as he shied away from the commercialization of art. Someone will be lucky to have this one.
