Both stylistically modern and compositionally classic, Erte's work (1892-1990) is revered around the world for its originality and thought provoking subject matter.
"The Curtain" is a limited edition serigraph on paper from 1977, numbered 217 of 300 and hand signed in pencil by the artist. It has a certificate of authenticity from Circle Galleries.
Measurements are 20" X 11 5/8" for the serigraph and 29" X 19 1/4" framed.
Erte; Father of Art Deco: Romaine de Tirtoff was born Roman Petrovich Tyrtov in 1892 in St. Petersburg, Russian Empire. He died in 1990 at the age of 97. His father was a Russian Fleet Admiral, but as a young man Erte moved to Paris, France to pursue a career as a designer. In 1915 he got his substantial contract with Harper's Bazaar magazine and went on to an illustrious career that included designing costumes and stage sets. Erte is perhaps most famous for his elegant fashion designs which capture the Art Deco period in which he worked.
