This set of six dining chairs was designed by Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling for Gustav Bahus in the 1950s. The frames are made of teak, and the seats and backs retain their original black leather upholstery. The leather features distinctive stitching that forms part of the chair’s original production details. The construction follows the mid-century Norwegian approach in which solid timber frames support upholstered panels with minimal visible hardware. These chairs were produced by Gustav Bahus during a period when the company collaborated with several Norwegian designers to develop functional and durable domestic furniture.
Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling were Norwegian designers who worked together from the mid-20th century onward and became known for their contribution to the country’s furniture industry. They trained in architecture and design before forming their partnership, which focused on functional furniture grounded in clear structure and efficient manufacturing. They co-founded the design studio Rastad & Relling Tegnekontor, which collaborated with multiple Norwegian furniture producers. Their work spanned seating, storage, and interior elements created for both private and public settings. The studio played a central role in shaping post-war Norwegian modern furniture and supported the country’s shift toward industrial production.

Some parts of the stitching on the seating has come lose. In case this is wished for, we can discuss new stitching. The teak frames exhibit surface marks and signs of wear, reflecting regular use over time. One chair with a repair to a front leg. Overall, the construction of each chair remains solid and stable. We have consciously chosen to photograph all of our items in their current state to present the real original condition as completely as possible for transparency towards our clients.
