In Enso Study 2, Virginia Cohn Parkum explores the enso as both disciplined gesture and living trace of motion. The circle is executed in a continuous sweep, yet the brushstroke reveals subtle variations in pressure, speed, and ink saturation that transform the form into a record of embodied movement rather than a static symbol.

The lower left quadrant carries the greatest visual weight. Here, the brush deposits a dense, velvety mass of ink, the stroke widening as pressure increases and pigment pools into a soft, rounded termination. This gravity anchors the composition, suggesting the moment when the brush slowed and the hand paused before releasing tension. From that weighted base, the stroke ascends and lightens, the line thinning as the brush lifts and the ink begins to dry.
