This artwork is an 18th-century style Chinoiserie and Commedia dell'Arte decorative oil on wood paionting, created in the manner of renowned rococo ornamental painters such as Andien de Clermont and Jean-Baptiste Pillement.
Rococo Grotesque / Chinoiserie decoration, a whimsical 18th-century European style that blended idealized East Asian aesthetics with theatrical fantasy. The central architecture features an elaborate, shell-topped canopy housing figures in exoticized Asian costumes (turbans, pointed hats, and robes) pouring tea. Suspended directly beneath the central canopy is a swinging acrobatic figure dressed in the brightly colored, feathered, and masked attire of the Commedia dell'Arte tradition (specifically resembling the character Harlequin or a festival performer). The main scene is cradled by a large, sweeping pink and blue ribbon scroll. The composition floats on an airy, sky-blue background adorned with stalks of grain and fluttering dragonflies, which adds to its light, decorative, panel-like qualities.
Oil on Wood, later modern gilt frame.
