This solid bronze sculpture was originally conceived as a precious decorative frieze for high-end furnishings. Expertly restored, it has been transformed into an exclusive wall décor piece, capable of lending mythological and historical charm to any space. The conversion into a hanging sculpture enhances its three-dimensionality, transforming a functional detail into a solitary visual protagonist.
Subject and Style: The figure represents a winged mythological creature of great elegance, blending human features and architectural decorations. The style is an excellent example of Italian Art Nouveau from the first three decades of the twentieth century: note the sinuous lines on the bust's armor, composed of mirrored scrolls that recall the floral movement typical of Art Nouveau. The complex hairstyle and the finely chiseled, outstretched wings suggest a neoclassical inspiration revisited with the eclectic taste of the era.
Material and Finish: The object is crafted from lost-wax cast bronze, with a natural patina alternating golden highlights and areas of brown oxidation, authentic evidence of its age. The back, hollow as is traditional for applied friezes, reveals the solidity of the original casting and now houses an antique iron hook, added to allow for immediate hanging.
