He lived and worked in Ortisei (St. Ulrich in Gröden), a center of South Tyrolean woodcarving.

One of his most famous works is a roughly 3-meter-high, carved wooden Madonna, which he personally installed around 1950 in a rock niche on the east face of the Sassolungo mountain to protect climbers and hikers. He also appeared as an actor in the 1955 mountain film "Flucht in die Dolomiten" (original title: Il prigioniero della montagna), directed by Luis Trenker.

As early as the 17th century, numerous families in Ortisei dedicated themselves to woodcarving, primarily crafting biblical figures, statues of saints, and altars. Even today, sacred wood carvings from Val Gardena are in high demand internationally. The individuality and high artistic value of the woodcarvers' work from St. Ulrich are particularly appreciated.
