The concept: western nostalgia and cinema noir
slavery is a pendant chandelier that transports the viewer into the history-laden atmospheres of old cinematic saloons. Italian designer dario nasuti aimed to capture the essence of "weathered" design, creating a work that appears to come from a bygone era, yet with contemporary technical precision. The name itself is a visual metaphor: thousands of chains that envelop and "imprison" the light, creating a play of shadows and golden reflections.
the process: the art of micro-assembly
the creation of slavery takes place entirely by hand in the parma workshop, following a unique production process:
the invisible anchor: the base is an iron ceiling rose (ø 30 cm) in an aged brass finish. Hidden inside are one hundred horn buttons with galvanized metal stems. Only the stems emerge from the holes in the rose, serving as hook points for the structure.
the weaving: these are not simple industrial chains. Nasuti uses small 8mm spiral rings (similar to those used for keychains), manually interlocked one by one to form chains of varying lengths.
asymmetry and movement: thousands of rings form an asymmetric waterfall around the base. Some chains are deliberately crossed inside to break the regularity and give the piece a sense of organic dynamism.
materials and lighting direction
every component is selected to enhance the material warmth of the brass:
vintage finishes: the antique brass galvanized metal pairs with three matching metal lamp holders, supported by brown twisted cables.
tubular light: the system houses three 20 cm long tubular led bulbs (7w each). Their elongated shape and warm color temperature create a dramatic contrast with the density of the chains, transforming the chandelier into a monumental and welcoming lantern.
designer craftsmanship made in italy
slavery is a self-produced piece that celebrates the manual skill and ingenuity of parma’s mechanical excellence applied to art. It is an object designed to stand the test of time, perfect for rustic environments, industrial lofts, or spaces requiring a focal point with a strong, decisive character.
