An elegant silvered bronze from the second half of the 19th century, this work by A. Carrier embodies all the poetry of a Neapolitan dancer, his supple and vibrant silhouette seemingly still echoing the melodies of Southern Italy. The sculptor captures with rare delicacy the suspended moment when the dancer, with inspired gaze and precise gesture, surrenders to his art, while the finely crafted drapery, harmonious volumes, and subtly nuanced silver patina lend the piece a luminous and profoundly refined presence. The whole exudes a romantic, almost theatrical aura, where every detail testifies to exceptional sculptural skill. Mounted on a griotte marble base that enhances its noble appearance, this sculpture offers the timeless charm of 19th-century works and stands out as a collector's item capable of bringing a touch of artistic elegance, character, and distinction to any interior.
Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824–1887) was one of the major French sculptors of the 19th century, an emblematic figure of the Second Empire, and a recognized master of the Neo-Renaissance style. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and noticed early on for his talent as a modeler, he developed a brilliant career between Paris and London, working for both major manufacturers and on official commissions. A prolific artist, he excelled in female busts, decorative figures, and objets d'art, blending sensuality, elegance, and technical virtuosity. Director of artistic works at the Sèvres Manufactory from 1875, he had a lasting influence on the decorative sculpture of his time and trained numerous artists, including Auguste Rodin. His refined and abundant body of work remains one of the most representative of 19th-century artistic taste.
