A magnificent dark-patina bronze sculpture, inspired by the celebrated Neapolitan sculptural tradition of the late 19th century.
The sculpture captures a moment of everyday life with extraordinary realism and dynamism: the shock and sudden pain of a young fisherman (a "scugnizzo") surprised by the bite of a crab.
Artwork Characteristics
The piece is distinguished by its incredible anatomical rendering and expressive facial expression.
The twisting of the body and the balance on the right leg give the figure an extremely vital appearance, almost ready to move.
The rocky base includes the crab detail, the narrative fulcrum of the scene.
