Beautiful set of 3 antique carved wood Italian pilasters. Two of them are matching with pointed outer edges while the middle one has rounded edges. These are Solomonic (or “barley twist”) pilasters, and their most likely original use was as architectural elements on a Baroque church altar, retable, tabernacle surround, or chapel furnishing in Italy. The twisted shaft and Corinthian-style capitals are strongly associated with Italian ecclesiastical Baroque design from the 17th–18th centuries.
