Esther Pearl Watson, The Beautiful, June 2003. Acrylic on board. Signed, titled, and dated by the artist in the upper left: "Esther P. Watson / The Beautiful. June 2003." Housed in a black wood frame with wide white mat.
Watson (b. 1973) is a Los Angeles-based painter and illustrator represented by Vielmetter Los Angeles and Maureen Paley, London. Her work has been exhibited at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and the Oakland Museum of California, and is held in numerous private collections internationally. Her paintings draw on autobiography, folk art traditions, and the vernacular landscapes of American rural life — each one dense with detail, narrative, and a distinctly personal mythology.
The Beautiful is a panoramic landscape teeming with detail: a sailboat on a river, an orchard in rows, daffodils in the foreground, a bare tree holding the right edge, and a moody sky overhead. It rewards close looking — every inch of the surface contains something. Signed and dated in the artist's own hand directly on the face of the work.
From a private Los Angeles collection. Please note: shipping will be arranged starting July 17, 2026. Purchases made before that date will be fulfilled shortly after. Thank you for your patience.

Acrylic paint surface is stable with rich, lively color and visible impasto texture throughout — the raised brushwork is part of Watson's intentional technique and gives the work its handmade vitality. The frame is missing its glass; the mat has shifted slightly as a result. Buyer may wish to have the piece reglazed; the painting itself is in strong shape.
