A striking and exceptionally heavy hand-carved wood relief sculpture signed “A. Ruby,” featuring an abstracted figural composition rendered in richly contrasting natural woods. This substantial studio craft wall piece combines elements of Cubism, Brutalism, and mid-century modern carving traditions, with deeply dimensional geometric forms that reveal hidden figures and symbolic imagery the longer one studies the work.
The composition appears to depict a burdened figure carrying a cross-like form, giving the piece a subtle spiritual or allegorical presence while remaining highly abstract and modernist in execution.
