About the Artist:
George A. Waterson was an English painter of marine scenes of the 19th century. Born at Manchester around 1840, the artist derived from an old traditional family of artists working in England for centuries. He began his studies at the atelier of his father, but soon changed to the local Art Institute, where he continued and finished his studies with great success.
The following years Waterson spent on extensive study trips which helped him develop his own very characteristic way of painting. His main interest was the colour-scheme of his paintings. They show a superb and highly subtle difference which soon made him famous. His works found enthusiastic appreciation from critics and were distinguished with numerous prizes and medals. Already in his day, Waterson ranked amongst the most favorite artists and was collected by important galleries and museums.
