Exceptional pair of monumental hand-carved solid marble Japanese guardian lions, also known as Komainu or Foo Dogs, featuring extraordinary craftsmanship, substantial scale, and beautifully matched natural marble veining throughout.
These impressive sculptures were hand carved in Japan from solid blocks of marble and exhibit classic guardian lion symbolism with one figure resting upon the traditional sacred sphere and the companion figure positioned with cub motif symbolism. Each lion features a free-moving carved marble ball suspended within the mouth — a remarkable demonstration of artisan stone carving skill rarely seen in modern decorative pieces.
The pair displays an elegant and commanding presence suitable for:
* luxury residence entryways
* estate interiors
* architectural installations
* upscale hospitality spaces
* meditation/yoga environments
* Asian-inspired interiors
* garden or conservatory placement
The carving quality is exceptional, with deep sculptural detailing throughout the mane curls, facial features, paws, and ornamental chest drapery. The natural white marble with soft gray veining gives the sculptures a timeless museum-quality aesthetic.
