A large vintage Japanese sculpture / statue / okimono in blackened and carved wood, depicting 1 male lion, 2 cubs and a lioness. The statue is handcrafted from a dense wood, possibly ironwood. with the original glass eyes and inset bone teeth.
There is an artist mark on the base.
MEASUREMENTS
6 ½ in (16.5 cm) wide x 5 ½ in (14.0 cm) deep x 12 ½ in (31.8 cm) tall. Weighs 4 lbs 15.8 oz.
CONDITION
Other than a short split in the base, the statue is in excellent condition with very little wear and no damages to the eyes or teeth.
A striking and substantial Japanese okimono, rich in craftsmanship, presence, and sculptural detail—an impressive statement piece for Asian or wildlife art collector.
