This monumental Japanese storage chest from the Meiji period has a warm natural wood tone, a wide rectangular form and a beautifully aged surface.
The chest opens from the top with a hinged lid and has two practical lower drawers for smaller items.
Dimensions: height 67.5 cm, width 94 cm, depth 62 cm.
The large metal lock plate, without key, together with the corner fittings and sober handles, gives the piece a strong, graphic character.
The interior is spacious and ideal for storing textiles, blankets, clothing or other objects. The two lower drawers make the piece especially practical.
Today, this chest works beautifully as a low wall piece, side cabinet or display surface for large ceramics, ikebana, books or selected objects. with its scale, warm wood tone and quiet presence, it brings a natural accent to any stylish, minimalist or eclectic interior.
In good antique condition, with signs of use and natural ageing consistent with age and function.
