ANTIQUE ORIGINAL WATERCOLOUR PAINTING DEPICTING PUTTI
A soft and sensitive watercolour depicting a cherub/putti flying in the clouds holding up flowers, often symbolising love or innocence.
The work is unsigned but is expertly painted by a competent hand capturing the character of the face and movement in the body with great skill. The painting doesn’t feel overworked and the artist has used light washes in a marshmallow colour palette of pale pink, blue and yellow to represent a light and fluffy sky lit with bright sun rays.
It is numbered to the lower right in pencil ‘19’. This could potentially represent a page number from a sketch book or possibly a date.
The frame is just as good as the artwork, and together they become magical. The Verre Egolisme glass has been reverse painted with black ground and gilded with moons, stars and the sun which have a beautifully hand drawn, folky quality to them.
The painting itself is in very good vintage condition with some light foxing to the paper but nothing too serious. The glass is free from damage and the frame has some light rubbing and very minor losses etc. but is also in good vintage condition.
Approximate overall measurements: Height: 9.45 in (24 cm) Width: 12.8 in (32.5 cm) Depth: 0.99 in (2.5 cm)
