A very good antique 19th Century Islamic Persian Arabic brass celestial globe, astrolabe, circa 1850.
This is a very attractive antique Islamic Qajar period brass Persian Arabic armillary (spherical astrolabe), celestial globe, circa 1850. The globe having a graduated ring engraved with Arabic Script (rather than Farsi, Persia being an Islamic country used Arabic for such items), the hollow sphere mounted on an axle & is ornately engraved with zodiacal signs, angled rotational bands, figurative representations: serpents & other creatures as well as numerical symbols & short legends written in Arabic.
The globe is suspended above four naturalistic engraved supports, the base with a secondary chapter ring with corresponding Arabic calligraphy.
The globe is in excellent antique condition and is ready to grace your collection.
Such globes are housed in important collections of major museums and institutions such as: The Smithsonian, The Metropolitan Museum, The Victoria & Albert Museum, Royal Museums Greenwich London and many more.
