Measuring around 43” long, the chassis features a channel-beam frame that carries a four-cylinder engine with a transparent case that allows observation of electrically driven rotating internal components including a crankshaft, pistons, a camshaft, and overhead valves with color-coded rockers. A cutaway manual gearbox with an operational shifter and clutch allows selection from three speeds and reverse to transfer power to the rear wheels via a driveshaft, a cutaway differential, and half shafts. Additional features include illuminated simulation spark plugs, a pontoon-style front fascia, functional leaf-spring suspension, functional drum brakes visible through cutaway segments in disc wheels, a cutaway functional worm-and-sector steering box, functional lighting, and covered fuse panels. In response to the evolving curricula of driving schools in Europe, Opel dealer Emil Höhm began developing instructional models in partnership with driving-education publisher Werner Degener in the mid-1930s. A prototype based on a period Opel Admiral debuted at the 1939 International Auto Exhibition in Berlin, and production began soon after in Letmathe, Germany. Ranging from full chassis to focused systems, the models were revised over time to reflect advances in automotive technology as well as to take advantage of the availability of plastics. The model measures approximately 43” in length, 16” in width, and 18” in height. See less
