This collage, titled "Long March", is the work of Charles Christopher Hill (often credited as C.C. Hill), a prominent American artist and printmaker based in California. Hill is widely known for his large-scale, multi-layered paper collages that often feature distressed, weathered, or "found" textures. His early works from the 1970s frequently used common newsprint and were hand-sewn or stitched,
giving them a physical, textile-like quality. Artistic Philosophy: He describes his style as placing a "minimal image on very
complicated ground". His work is heavily influenced by physical anthropology and "visual clues left by previous cultures," which often manifests as primitive shapes-like the central, totem-like figure in this piece-set against complex, textured
backgrounds. •lHis artworks are held in several major museum collections, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Museum of Modern
Art (MoMA) in New York, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
