Also known as Shaka, Gautama Buddha, or Prince Siddhartha, Shakyamuni embodies the virtues of wisdom and composure and guides others in their journey towards enlightenment.

Dated to the mid-19th century during the Rattanakosin dynasty (1782-1932), the Buddha is cast of bronze to exquisite detail and painted with gilt pigments for a lustrous finish. He sits upon a tiered lotus plinth with legs crossed and hands held together in dhyana mudra, a gesture of inner balance and deep reflection.

The Buddha is cast in a distinctly Thai style, dressed in bejeweled finery reminiscent of Thai royal attire and wearing a tall, flame-like crown. This spiked crown is known as an ushnisha, and signifies wisdom and the spiritual power of the Buddha's enlightenment See less
