This low cabinet with many drawers is a small Chinese apothecary chest, once used in a 19th-century pharmacy to organize and store traditional herbal medicines. The medicine cabinet (yaochu) has a square-corner design, faced with nine drawers each affixed with a simple brass pull. Darkened by a layer of black lacquer with great patina, the antique cabinet brings fantastic character to the home as a bedroom nightstand or end table.
