The 'Kevin Ayers' vase represents the pinnacle of compositional complexity within the Canterbury series. Dedicated to the charismatic and brilliant founder of Soft Machine, this piece translates his "collage" approach to music into a modular sculpture. Abandoning the single form, the vase is a pyramidal assembly of open "boxes" that interlock in a sophisticated balance. The cubical volumes create a dynamic interplay of solid and void, light and shadow, transforming the concept of "Invisible Architecture" into a true miniature urban landscape.
The Genesis: Capucci's Sartorial Constructivism
The soul of this artwork dates back to 2001, when Italian designer Dario Nasuti collaborated on the prêt-à-porter relaunch of the historic Roberto Capucci fashion house, alongside avant-garde designer Bernhard Willhelm. The inspiration stems from the "box-construction" technique, a 3D tailoring method where the garment becomes an architecture independent of the body. To explore this modularity, Nasuti created the first prototypes by assembling rigid pattern-making cardboard and silicone. Preserved in his private archive for over twenty years, these studies are reborn today in the strength of steel, sublimating the sartorial intuition into collectible design.
Production Excellence: The Craftsmanship of Parma
Artisanal Mastery: The piece is entirely handmade in Parma, Italy, the heart of the "Motor Valley" and a global hub for precision engineering. Merging and welding such complex open volumes requires surgical expertise in high-gauge steelwork.
Silk Finish (Bead-blasting): The surface undergoes a technical bead-blasting (micro-pallinatura) treatment. This process eliminates the cold reflections of industrial metal, giving the steel a matte, silk-like, and deeply tactile texture that enhances the geometry of the volumes.
Authenticity: The vase is signed on a metal plate welded to the base, guaranteeing a 100% Made in Italy sculptural piece.
