This elegant composition originates from the important Dutch horticultural publication Tuinbouw-Flora van Nederland en zijne overzeesche bezittingen, published in 1856 under the direction of the botanist Willem Hendrik de Vriese. The print presents the plant in refined scientific detail, combining botanical accuracy with strong decorative appeal. The long, arching leaves are rendered in soft green tones with characteristic silvery horizontal banding, while the flowering stem displays delicate salmon-pink bracts and finely structured blossoms. The contrast between the soft pastel petals and the darker stamens with bright yellow tips creates a visually dynamic composition. Additional analytical details of the flower are included below, reflecting the scientific intent of the work. Lithographed by Adolf Wendel and printed by Lemercier in Paris, this piece represents the high quality of 19th-century European botanical illustration. Works from this series are valued for both their artistic elegance and their documentation of exotic plant species from the Dutch colonial world. This print works beautifully as a decorative statement piece, with its vertical composition and refined color palette making it ideal for both classic and contemporary interiors. It also pairs well with other botanical prints for a cohesive wall arrangement. Condition report: Good condition with light age toning and occasional minor spotting. Original fold lines visible, as issued. Margins intact. Colors remain strong and well preserved. Framing tips: Very suitable for a dark walnut or ebonized frame with a wide ivory mat for a classic look. Alternatively, a thin black or soft gold frame with a clean white mat creates a lighter, more contemporary presentation. Technique: Chromolithograph Maker: Adolf Wendel, after Willem Hendrik de Vriese, Paris / Netherlands, 1856 Special note: This is an original antique engraving, not a reproduction. The print is sold unframed; any framed images are shown for presentation and interior inspiration only and may not always be on scale with the original. See less
