Exceptionally rare holy water font designed by Jan de Jong for the chapel of Nursing Home De Weerde, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, 1966. This extraordinary holy water font is an exceptionally rare and unique example of Bossche School liturgical design. Cast entirely in solid bronze and preserved in its original condition, it shows a stunning natural patina with green oxidization that highlights the depth and age of the material. Wall mounted with two anchors, the font has a remarkable geometric clarity. Cross shapes extend outward on three sides, creating a perfectly symmetrical composition that presents beautifully from every angle. The result is a piece that feels both sacred and architectural, perfectly aligned with the Bossche School’s principles of proportion and order.
Designed by Jan de Jong, this font is not only rare but also of exceptional historical significance. De Jong’s architectural and liturgical work rarely included such small-scale bronze elements, making this object an outstanding and unique example within his oeuvre. In decades of collecting and research, no comparable piece has surfaced, underlining its singularity and rarity. Jan de Jong played a central role in translating the theoretical principles of Dom Hans van der Laan into built form. His impressive oeuvre made him one of the most important architects of the Bossche School. Through his extensive architectural practice, he gave the movement its physical language, uniting structure, proportion and silence into timeless architecture and furniture. This holy water font embodies that vision in miniature, making it a remarkable object for both serious collectors and museal collections. Provenance: Nursing Home De Weerde, Eindhoven, 1966.
