Rare façade element designed by Jean Prouvé and manufactured for the André-Argouges high school in Grenoble, France, 1965. This example belongs to the same modular façade system developed by Prouvé in the mid-1960s, conceived as a rational and adaptable solution for educational architecture. The system was composed of three interchangeable panel types: fixed glazed elements, sliding window units, and solid insulated panels such as this one. Mounted onto vertical façade mullions, these components could be arranged according to the functional needs of the interior, allowing for both uniform compositions and more varied, rhythmic elevations through the interplay of different modules and finishes. The construction reflects Prouvé’s mastery of industrial techniques and material efficiency. While the transparent panels were executed in extruded aluminum profiles, the solid versions were built with a steel outer shell, finished in kiln-lacquered or enameled coating, combined with internal insulation and a wooden interior surface. This white variant emphasizes the clarity and precision of the form, highlighting the softly radiused corners and the subtle depth of the pressed metal surface. As a fragment removed from its architectural context, the panel retains a strong sculptural presence. It stands as a testament to Prouvé’s vision of architecture as a system of intelligent components, where flexibility, performance, and visual coherence are seamlessly integrated. In its restrained white finish, this piece further underlines the timeless quality of his work, bridging the gap between functional building element and collectible design object. The panel is in very good condition with minimal age related user signs who are visible on the pictures.
