The large ceiling lamp model 2042/6, designed by the legendary Gino Sarfatti and manufactured by Arteluce in Italy in 1963, is a striking example of mid-century modern lighting design. The 2042 series consists of several versions and sizes, as Sarfatti designed this to be an expandable design. This example composed of six hand-blown opaline glass spheres, the fixture is supported by a beautifully minimal painted off-white aluminium structure. Each globe is held delicately in place by a metal ring and can be positioned in either upward or downward direction, allowing for flexibility in lighting expression. When viewed from below, the arrangement reveals an elegant, layered silhouette that highlights the refined geometry and balance of Sarfatti’s design. Sarfatti, known for his engineering background and forward-thinking approach, was deeply inspired by the grandeur of 1920s hotel chandeliers. with the 2042/6 model, he distilled that opulence into a modern, simplified form, stripping away the excess while retaining the visual impact and grace. The result is a sculptural, functional piece that evokes both nostalgia and innovation. The original Arteluce maker’s sticker is still present on the ceiling plate, confirming its authenticity. This ceiling lamp remains in very good original condition, with only minor signs of age-related wear\.
