This is a primitive 19th Century farmhouse kitchen chair, which has a half-spindle back and plank seat. These chairs were quite commonly used as dining or side chairs and their construction was very sturdy. The finish on the chair is a rich dark brown and although is likely not the original, is quite old. Chairs of this age and type were typically made of oak, maple or hickory (or a combination). With the use of hardwoods, these chairs were meant to stand daily use and the test of time. This is a great example of primitive beauty and resiliency!

There appears … moreThis lovely chair is in excellent structural condition with no wobbly joints or cracked legs, stretchers, or spindles. There appears to have been a repair to the crest where it meets the outer spindle (rear photo shows wood chipping), but Seller believes that the repair was done long ago, based on the hardware. The chair's construction is not compromised in any way and it extremely sturdy. The wood throughout has customary use finish & use wear (dings) as seen in photos. less
