What makes this set especially unusual is the hinged wooden bases: the two cube bases are joined by a brass piano hinge, allowing them to be displayed together as a single sculptural unit or separated to flank a bed, sofa, or console.
Each lamp features a tall cylindrical shade in a woven fiberglass or spun silk material — cream-ivory in tone with a fine vertical texture that diffuses light beautifully. The shades sit atop a burnished brass collar ring above a clean blond wood cube base. Original brown cloth-wrapped cords are present on both lamps.
Modeline lamps are prized among MCM collectors for their quality construction and restrained, architectural sensibility. This hinged configuration appears to be an original design feature, possibly intended for nightstand or dresser use as a coordinated pair. See less
