A beautiful pair of framed ink drawings by John Chin Young depicting seated nude figures, each rendered in loose, gestural line on paper. The compositions are minimal, focusing on contour and posture rather than detail, and are signed and dated.
John Chin Young (1909–1997), a Honolulu-born, largely self-taught artist known for his calligraphic approach to line. Influenced by Chinese brush traditions and three years of study in Paris of European art, he developed a fluid, expressive style that became a hallmark of his work. Over his career, he exhibited at major institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and remains an important figure in Hawai‘i’s art history.
Presented as a cohesive pair in classic frames, these drawings are strong examples of his ability to convey form and movement with remarkable simplicity.
