The loose, confident brushwork and warm palette — peachy flesh tones, cobalt blue, deep greens — are characteristic of Hartley's mature figurative style.

Hartley studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and spent three decades as a commercial illustrator before devoting herself fully to fine art. Her work was represented by Coda Gallery in Palm Desert and has sold at auction nationally. This is a strong example of her signature subject matter — children rendered with emotional presence and painterly freedom.
