(Became Mappin & Webb in … Read more Six sets of Victorian fish knives and forks by London silversmiths Mappin Bros. circa 1865/70. (Became Mappin & Webb in 1898.) Exact dating is tricky because of the family dispute over the use of the name Mappin. The dispute was settled in 1902. The notched blades are handsomely engraved with a stylized fish and wave design and the comfortable, hollow handles are decorated with a leaf (wave?) design. Beautiful condition. There are no monograms. The hallmarks on the blades and the back of the forks are clear, but some of the maker's mark on the collars are somewhat diminished though still legible. The knives measure 9.5 inches long and the forks measure 7.75 inches long. The knives and the forks come with separate anti-tarnish flannel rolls if the buyer wants them. See less
