An exceptional 1960s example by John Widdicomb, crafted in Grand Rapids during a period celebrated for the company’s masterful reinterpretation of European design.
Executed in the French Louis XV manner, this bombe chest features a dramatic serpentine silhouette, richly carved Rococo scrollwork, and elegantly shaped cabriole legs. The warm walnut finish enhances the depth and dimensionality of the carving, allowing light and shadow to play beautifully across the façade.
The original brass hardware remains intact, complementing the richness of the wood tone. Interior drawers are constructed of solid wood with finely executed dovetail joinery and retain the original Widdicomb brass maker’s plaque, confirming authenticity and quality craftsmanship.
A timeless example of American artistry influenced by classic French design, offering both striking decorative presence and enduring investment appeal.
